I have noticed that in the Winter my creativity and energy go waaayyy down. Does anyone have any tips to get those creative juices flowing? Of course right now I am ill to boot, so that doesn't help (hack cough)!

Good question! I struggle with this, too...I'm willing to bet that I have a touch of seasonal affective disorder. :) (And illness definitely makes diving under the covers a top priority.) I've started using the winter to get organized....I move my beads around, destash stuff I haven't and probably won't use, buy new storage boxes and containers. While I'm moving all these items around, I start to get ideas about how to put them together. I keep little trays handy, and just toss items that I want to pair up into them - I call them "rough drafts". :) Then, when I'm more motivated, I have some projects started that I can pick up. But organizing my stash and getting rid of "dead wood" always gets my juices flowing. Guess it must be my librarian mentality!

I find it a good time to do what I call "gathering." It is when I start looking for things I love and attract my attention. Maybe it is just cutting pictures out of magazines or going to a flea market and picking up things that inspire you. It can even be a walk out in nature to find objects that attract your attention. Or maybe it is just going on the hunt for new supplies to inspire you. Those things get filed away in my brain and a some point a creation will spring forth. It is a good time just to let things be and simmer in your brain.

A great book to get you inspired and take some time to reflect on what it means to be an artist and how to inspire your creativity is The Artists Way by Julia Cameron.

When I get the Winter "Blahs" and trust me, with 6 months of Winter here in Indiana, I do get the "Blahs" from time to time. I get back on track by organizing my studio. This re-familiarizes you to your stash. I always find fabrics, beads and threads I had forgotten about or even items placed on shelves straight from the store unopened thinking I would get to them later in the day. After seeing all the colors and fun things to work with, I am inspired to start a new project,or in my case, more than one. I also dye new silk ribbons to spark my interest. Go through your beads, or whatever your stash contains and I bet your "blahs" will subside soon. Happy Creating.

I am in the convalescent stage of my illness now so my husband has promised to help me clean out my studio. I hope that helps to inspire me! I haven't stepped foot in it since Winter began, LOL! I am kind of looking forward to cleaning it now.
